Our Home Oil Spill Remediation Service
For context, let’s dive a bit deeper into this service from NEDT. Our home heating oil spill cleanup program comprises multiple services that work together to deal with a residential oil spill. They generally include the following, usually in this order:
- Heating Oil Spill Response: After being contacted, NEDT will arrive to assess the situation, including working with other agencies. This includes a quote that factors in your particular circumstances and needs (such as staying in the home during remediation).
- Containment & Cleaning: Once contracted, NEDT will start the work to contain the current spill and start cleaning. This includes ventilation, barriers, and heating/cooling options, alongside deep industrial-grade cleaning.
- Home Remediation: Once the spill has been contained and cleaned up, additional remediation is often needed. This most often includes tank cleaning/removal and contaminated soil removal, which can include selective demolition.
- LSP & Paperwork Coordination: If you’ve been assigned a Licensed Site Provider as part of your spill, NEDT will coordinate the project with them, as well as any other contractors/subcontractors. We also can interface with your home insurer!

Oil Spill Cleanup Gallery – NEDT in Action!
Below is a selection of photos and explanatory captions describing some of the parts of home heating oil cleanup, from initial response to final wrap-up.
- An NEDT Spill Response vehicle and Vacuum truck deployed at a home. The spill response truck contains first response equipment and worksite tools. The vacuum truck is used to clean up contaminated materials, typically oil and soil.
- An NEDT staffer in protective gear has entered a below-ground oil tank to assess it for leaks. From here, it may be cleaned or removed depending on what is found. Leaks will require additional soil remediation to avoid risks to the environment and groundwater.
- Staff in a basement with a heating oil leak. Air barriers and ventilation have been put in place, and the floor has been removed to reach the leak and contaminated soil. In the foreground, you can see a tube that leads back to the vacuum truck for debris removal.
- Some projects require more equipment, including earthmovers, vacuum trucks, and pneumatic tools. The use of these tools allows for both faster and more thorough remediation to minimize disruptions to your daily lives.
- A larger home project that required complete floor removal and soil remediation, including removing support columns. You can see both temporary supports as well as setup for new concrete pours once remediation is completed.
